MeraNews Network, New Delhi: Senior journalist and Public Relations Officer in the Prime Minister’s office (PMO) Jagdish Thakkar passed away in New Delhi at the age of 72 on Monday. Thakkar, who was unwell since some time, was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for the last three months.

The veteran journalist has worked with Narendra Modi even during his time as the chief minister of Gujarat and former CM Keshubhai Patel and was promoted as the PRO in the PMO after Modi became the PM in 2014. According to media reports, Thakkar died of multiple organ failure. Thakkar, a native of Bhavnagar had joined the state information department of Gujarat in 1966-67 and had retired in the year 2004, but continued to work with Modi, during his tenure as the CM and later when he became the PM.

PM Modi met Thakkar family at AIIMS on Monday morning and condoled his passing away. In a tweet, Modi said Jagdishbhai was a veteran journalist and he had the pleasure of working with him for years, both in Gujarat and in Delhi. The Prime Minister said, he was known for his simplicity and warm-hearted nature and several journalists would have regularly interacted with him over the years. The PM added that we have lost a wonderful person, who loved his work and did it with utmost diligence.
