Surat: At a time when everyone in Surat city was in their deep sleep, the rain gods battered the city with surprise showers coupled with strong winds, which left the city partially flooded and 40 trees at different places uprooted.

At around 3 AM to 4 AM early Sunday morning, heavy rains took Surtis by surprise and the city fire brigade got scampering as the began to get back to back calls of trees getting uprooted with the strong winds blowing alongside the rain. This continued till 7 AM in the morning and the count of trees felled by the winds reached 40.

Those living in shanties were left in a lurch as their roofs were blown away and the ones living on streets were left drenched by the rains. Had it been the daytime, some arrangements of accommodating the homeless could have been done, but because this was in the middle of the night, they were left with no choice but to weather the storm.
