Gandhinagar: In what sounded like good news to the employees and pensioners of Gujarat government, the Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel Patel had on Thursday announced that the seventh pay commission arrears of the state government employees and pensioners would be paid to them shortly. This is going to be a burden of crores of rupees on the state treasury
Speaking in the Legislative Assembly, Patel informed that 4.65 lakh employees of the state government are yet to be paid their arrears for the seventh pay commission from April 1, 2016 and the 1.12 lakh pensioners are to be paid their arrears from October 10, 2016.
The state government will pay this amount in three installments in cash, whose first installment will paid in March 2018, second installment in May 2018 and third installment in July 2018. The first installment will see Rs852.78 crores being disbursed to employees and Rs340.48 crores to pensioners. In total, the state government will be paying Rs1193.26 crores as arrears of the seventh pay commission.
