MeraNews Network, Rajkot: Former Indian cricketer and Congress minister Navjot Singh Sidhu were all guns blazing on the last day of campaigning for the Jasdan bypolls on Tuesday as he came out to support the Congress candidate Avsar Nakia. He said that he has been sent by Rahul Gandhi and Ahmed Patel to fight the battle of truth, and using his witty jibes and one-liners, levied heavy criticism on the ruling BJP government.
Mimicking the oratory style of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Sidhu spoke about the promises made by the PM and asked the audience, ‘Did you get your 15 lakh rupees?’ He said the Modi government has been in power for the past 22 years in the state, but it could not do what the Congress did within 22 minutes of coming to power (referring to the loan waiver by CM Kamal Nath in Madhya Pradesh). Training his guns at the BJP candidate in Jasdan Kunvarji Bavaliya, Sidhu said ‘It is time you pull out the bavalia (babul plant) before it hurts you.’
He further fired criticism at Bavaliya saying he stabbed in the back of the Congress by switching sides. He changed side for the greed of ministerial position.
Praising Nakia, Sidhu, in his imitable style said, “Aayu thodi badi hai, utsah aaj bhi vahi hai. Talvar purani hai, par dhar aur takat vahi hai…. Avsar will hit Bavaliya for a sixer, boundary ke bahar.” (His age might be a bit higher, but his enthusiasm is still the same. The sword might be old, but its sharpness and power are still the same. Avsar will hit Bavaliya for a sixer out of the boundary).
Jasdan goes to polls on December 20. Kunvarji Bavaliya and Avsar Nakia are in direct contest with each other in this bypolls.
