Hitesh Chavda, Gandhinagar: Sabarkantha Police's Special Operations Group (SOG) on Monday arrested a Himmatnagar youth for cyber-stalking and sending lewd messages to a girl on photo sharing social media portal Instagram. The accused Mahummad Sunasara, 22, from Satanagar in Himmatnagar was the classmate of the complainant in college while studying BSc. Nursing an old grudge against her, Sunasara is said to have hacked into 3 different Instagram accounts and used them to harass the girl.

The victim had registered a complaint with the Sabarkantha Police about receiving several lewd and abusive comments and messages on her Instagram account from various other profiles on the same platform. She had earlier informed her family about this and later even confronted a few users of the profiles, who claimed innocence and had no clue about such messages being sent to her from their profiles and said that probably someone might have hacked into their profiles and sent these messages to her.

The case was handed over to the SOG for as it was pertaining to cyber-crime. Led by sub-inspector Sanjay Parmar, the SOG put the Instagram accounts mentioned by the complainant under surveillance and traced the messages to Sunsara using 3 different accounts, none of them were his. Parmar told MeraNews, “We put the accounts and profiles in question under surveillance and tracked it down to Mahummad Sunsara of Satanagar in Himmatnagar block. He is said to have a personal vendetta against the complaint and wanted to defame her in social media.”

Sunsara has been charged under IPC Sections 354D (Stalking), 419 (Punishment for cheating by personation) and 500(defamation) and IT Act Sections 66C and D (Punishment for identity theft) and 67 (Punishment for publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form).
