The results of the Assembly Elections before the 2019 General Elections are out. By the time this letter reaches you, it would be clear that which party has won in which state. The citizens, who were tired of Congress voted for you in 2014 unflinchingly. You were given the sole credit for the 2014 win. The country believed in your name and your words. But the assembly elections in Gujarat in 2017 and the polls in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram in 2018 should be alarm bells for you.
In 2014 when you went on to become the prime minister of the country, every citizen believed that now good will happen in their lives as you spoke about bringing in the Acche Din (Good Days). You will have to take responsibility for the states where you lost, and those where Congress has seen extraordinary growth. We didn’t have any problems with your plan to make a ‘Congress-mukt Bharat’ (Congress-free India). But you have taken in those leaders of Congress to the BJP fold, who were known for their corrupt and anti-social practices. This way, you have actually made a Congress-yukt Bharat (Congress-inclusive India), there remains no difference between you and them. It is necessary for a democracy to have a notable presence of the opposition as it limits unprecedented run of power. It is a matter of concern for us as the presence of the opposition is being wiped out with undemocratic means.
But, the people have now put brakes on your egotistical run. The results of the five state assembly polls have made you aware of the fact that the citizens never approve of an arrogant leader. Before you, Indira Gandhi had in a similar egomaniacal run of power, forgotten that the citizens’ stick never makes noise when it strikes. Even as there is a handful months left for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, your trusted men have begun leaving you. Those with who you implemented the demonetisation have now begun saying out in open that they weren’t aligned to your ideas from the start back then. When demonetisation was executed, I had said that you should be given time before jumping to conclusion on whether the decision was right or wrong. Now, two years later we realize who actually benefitted from the move, there is no clarity on which thieves were sent to jail and that the condition of the good people worsened. A law-abiding trader pays Rs 300 income tax and Rs 180 GST if he earns Rs 1000. What kind of arrangement is this where a businessman has to pay Rs 480 out of his Rs 1000 income?
You have politics imbibed in you and have been successful so far in defeating Congress and your other opponents. But instead of bringing in politics into everything, try bringing prosperity to the country and each of its citizens or else they will ensure you’re held accountable for your deeds in 2019. Your army is full of yes-men, but it is important to have those who criticize you too. I pray everything becomes alright.
