MeraNews Network, Surendranagar: The Kheda Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday nabbed a middleman red-handed when he was accepting a bribe for a policeman. When the ACB sleuths had swooped down on him, a constable and another person fled the spot. This comes close to the heels of a previous instance where a few government officials were nabbed in an ACB trap while accepting bribes. The menace of bribery has been on the rise in Surendranagar since some time as citizens looking to get their official work done or vehicle riders caught flouting traffic rules are forced to pay bribes by cops and government officials alike.
The ACB had received a complaint on their toll-free number about several cops and their middlemen taking money from truck drivers and other heavy vehicle drivers on the Limbdi-Rajkot highway, without offering them any memo or a bill for the same. Acting on the complaint, Kheda ACB police inspector MF Chaudhary set a trap on the Limbdi circle. The complainant, who was supposed to pass through the spot carrying a truck full of cotton, was expectantly stopped by the cops and his middlemen. They demanded Rs 300 from him to let him pass.
As the middleman, identified as Dinesh Manji, was accepting the money, the ACB swooped down on him and arrested him. Meanwhile, Constable Dilawar Khan Makrani and another person Vijay escaped before they could be nabbed too. The whole operation was conducted under the supervision of Ahmedabad ACB’s BL Desai.
