MeraNews Network, Ahmedabad: Riding on Manush Shah's heroics - four gold medals - Vadodara were crowned overall champions at the Gujarat State and Inter-District Table Tennis Championships 2018 played here at SAG Sports Complex Khokhra here on Sunday. Vadodara won the men's title earlier.
In the Men's final Manush faced Ishaan Hingorani of Kutch. After conceding the first game 1-11, the Vadodara lad made a strong comeback to win next four games and the final 1-11 11-6 11-6 11-5 11-7.
Earlier in the semifinals, Manush had beaten warhorse Jignesh Jayswal of Bhavnagar in straight games 11-5 11-4 11-4 11-6, while Ishaan ended Dhairya Parmar's run with a hard-fought 12-10 7-11 13-11 12-10 11-13 11-4 scoreline.
Few minutes after winning Men's title, Manush back on the table this time to lock horns with the lanky Chitrax Bhatt from Ahmedabad in the Junior Boys final. The first game was stretched to stretched to 26 points and Chitrax seemed to be ready for the contest. However, with his subtle banana flicks and some heavy topspins, Manush registered a 14-12 11-6 11-8 11-9 victory.
Later in the evening, Manush and Ishaan engaged in one of the best finals of the Youth section till date. The match went down to the wire as both players showed grit and determination. Manush won the high octane encounter 10-12 11-9 11-4 11-7 8-11 15-17 11-6.
Meanwhile, in an all-Surti Women's final Frenaz Chipia successfully defended her state championship crown when she trounced Filzahfatema Kadri in a one-sided contest 11-6 11-6 11-8 11-5.
Kausha Bhairapure kept Ahmedabad in the game with two titles. The athletic paddler made an early exit in Women's section but compensated with Youth and Junior Girls titles. Kausha beat Bhavnagar's Prarthna Parmar 9-11 11-8 7-11 11-8 12-10 11-7 in Youth Girls final and then returned to overpower another Bhavnagari Namna Jayswal 8-11 11-6 8-11 11-6 6-11 11-8 11-6 in the Junior Girls final.
Manush-Frenaz walked away with mixed doubles title with an emphatic win over Chitrax Bhatt / Kausha Bhairapure 11-8 12-10 11-4.
