Sujith Nambiar, Ahmedabad: Gujarati film Karsandas Pay and Use won big at the inaugural edition of International Gujarati Film Festival 2018 (IGFF) held in New Jersey, USA with the talented troika of Mayur Chauhan, Deeksha Joshi and Hemang Shah bagging the titles of Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Actor in Comic Role respectively. Krishnadev Yagnik too won the best director award, taking the total award tally to four, highest amongst all the films in contention. The IGFF was held at New Jersey from August 3 to 5, 2018.

Written by and directed by Krishnadev Yagnik, the film comes from the stable of Belvedere Films, which gave the cult hit film Chhello Divas too. "Waking up to this beautiful surprise is something I am going to remember for a very long time in my life. We were pretty confident about this film fetching us awards as it was not your usual comedy caper one gets to see in Gujarati cinema. I consider myself really lucky getting to work in movies like Shubharambh, Karsandas... and my upcoming film Sharato Lagu where the female characters were given equal importance in the script. I am glad that Gujarati cinema is getting international recognition with fests like IGFF. It had the best jury consisting of stalwarts like Umesh Shukla and Jay Vasavda," said Deeksha Joshi, whose next film Sharato Lagu with Malhar Thakar has already been garnering rave reviews at the international film festivals in Canada and USA. Alongside Deeksha, Sujata Mehta too won the Best Actor Female award for her film Chitkar.

Mayur Chauhan, who played the lead role of Tilok in the film says, “I knew I’d win the best actor for this film. Karsandas… gave me a great range as an actor as my character had different shades to it. I am very grateful to my director and co-actors in the film, the jury and the organizers of IGFF for taking Gujarati cinema to a greater platform, at an international stage.” This is Mayur's first award for his work in cinema. He will have two upcoming releases this year, titled Paaghdi and Machhu.
