Ahmedabad: An Unmanned Ariel Vehicle (UAV) Heron of the Indian Navy had crashed close to the airbase at Porbandar, Gujarat earlier this morning on Thursday. The remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) was being operated from Porbandar airbase and crashed soon after take-off.

The incident occurred around 10 AM in the morning and the Indian Navy PRO informed that no injury or loss of life happened in the accident. The UAV crashed in an empty factory ground in Udhyognagar area of Porbandar. The UAV caught fire immediately, which created a flutter amongst residents nearby. Teams of police, fire brigade and the Indian Navy rushed to the spot and the fire was brought under control, but the aircraft was damaged too badly.

Premlimniary reports suggested that the cause of the crash was failure of the aircraft's engine. A Board of Inquiry (BoI) has been set up to probe into the cause of the crash.
