MeraNews Network, Ahmedabad: Heavy rains on early Friday morning have left Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad districts of Gujarat battered and several localities flooded. A rainfall of this intensity has returned to Ahmedabad after a break of about a month, though there were a few instances of short rain-spells here and there. 58 talukas of the state received heavy rains on Friday. The Friday morning rain has made the farmers happy, but many in cities were facing problems with commuting to work as several underpasses were shut due to water-logging.

The cloud and sun have been playing a hide and seek game in Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad for a month, with most of the days remaining cloudy and humid. But the past week saw temperatures touching 30 to 34 degrees during the day. Students and government servants didn’t face many issues as schools, colleges and government offices were observing a public holiday for the Parsi New Year but those working in private firms had to encounter water-logged streets, especially in low lying areas. 25 talukas received 2 to 5-inch rainfall, while Chota Udepur and Tilakwad received more than 5-inch rainfalls.

Ahmedabad city received 2.5-inch rainfalls in the first four hours of the day till 9 AM. The meteorological department has predicted heavy rains in the next 24 hours due to depression in the Arabian Sea.
