Ahmedabad: Soon, Gujarat will become the first state in the country to be completely covered under the city gas distribution network after the ninth round of bidding for city gas distribution for 86 geographical areas in 174 districts of 22 states and union territories across the country. Currently, 84.31 percent regions of Gujarat are covered under the CGD network and the ninth round of bidding will see 7 geographical areas in 14 districts of the state get auctioned.
Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) chairperson DK Sarraf said that 84.31 percent area in Gujarat with 87.37 percent population is currently under the CGD network and with the conclusion of the ninth bidding round, 100 percent area in the state will come under the network, a first in the country. Sarraf was in Gandhinagar on Wednesday to attend a meeting, which was a part of the CGD auction.
The last date for submission of bids in the ongoing auction is July 10, 2018. Currently, Gujarat has about 17.45 lakh piped natural gas connection. The geographical areas that are being auctioned from the state belong to Surendranagar, Junagadh, Narmada, Mahisagar, Porbandar, Gir-Somnath, Dangs, Tapi, Morbi, Surat, Kheda, Botad, and Navsari.
