MeraNews Network, Gandhinagar: Three staff members of the Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) have filed an application in the Gujarat High Court accusing the director Bimal Patel of misusing his powers to extend his authority and term by taking away the administrative powers from the registrar and thus violating the norms.
The staff members wrote that they’ve written to the executive council to take appropriate steps in this regards by either appointing a new director or an in-charge director to the post, instead of extending Patel’s tenure. They further informed that Patel is avoiding their calls, messages, and emails ever since they sent him a report about the end of his tenure as a director. They say that Patel had sent them a mail which informed that Registrar Thomas Mathew had administrative powers limited only to the convocation and admissions.
They further wrote that registrar Thomas too has stopped receiving their calls and that Patel has not only violated the norms and the procedures but also suppressed several facts to ensure that he gets to continue as a director of the institute is delaying the procedure and setting up of the review committee to avoid a decision against him.
The GNLU has not participated in the institutional rankings since 2017, fearing criticism of its administration and operations. But the executive council, in its decision has said that Bimal Patel can continue as the director till a new person fit for the job is brought in as his replacement. Bimal Patel has not responded to our attempts to contact him.
