MeraNews Network, Vadodara: Three workers were killed after a fire broke out in one of the plants of Reliance IPCL (Indian Petrochemicals Corporation Limited) on early Thursday morning. A few other workers also suffered from burn injuries. All the deceased were residents of Vadodara.

According reports, at around 3:30 AM on Thursday, a fire had erupted in the expander hot box of the Poly Butadiene Rubber-2 plant located at Nandesari, near Vadodara. The dead were identified as Mahendra Jadhav, Arun Dabhi and Pritesh Patel. Their bodies were sent for post mortem to the SSG Hospital in the city.

Wailing relatives of the deceased at the hospital were overheard accusing the company didn’t follow any safety procedures properly at their plants and that their lacunae have caused the deaths. All the three deceased were contractual workers with the plant

The company, in a statement said that the fire was restricted to one section of the plant and timely action by Reliance fire-fighting team helped in quickly extinguishing the fire. It further added that the rest of the complex continued with normal operations and an investigation will be conducted to ascertain the cause of the fire. IPCL had merged with Reliance Industries Limited in 2007.
