Meranews, Gandhinagar: With the addition of Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT), along with the EVMs in the upcoming Gujarat polls, the Chief Electoral Officer’s office (Gujarat) has asked an addition hour in the vote casting time.

So far the election time is from 8am to 5pm which they want to extend till 6pm.

As Gujarat will be having its state assembly elections with the added feature of the VVPAT linked to the Electronic Voting Machines (EVM), the time taken for casting a vote will increase compared to the earlier process (of just using EVMs  by the voter). As the voter will be verifying the vote they will cast, the time taken will be probably 7 to 9 seconds.

Considering these added time the Gujarat CEO’s office has asked the Election Commission of India (ECI) an extra hour to be included in the total polling time on the Election Day.

“We have asked that time to be extended till 6 in the evening as per our calculation the time taken will be comparatively more than the previous process because of the addition of VVPAT machine along with the EVMs,” confirmed an official on condition of anonymity.
