Ahmedabad: The administration wing of Gandhinagar’s Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City) was gutted Monday afternoon after a fire broke out on the premises.
Initial reports suggest that the fire, which started around 2.30pm, may have been caused by a short circuit or an accident in the canteen. By the time Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad fire brigade personnel brought the blaze under control, it had spreads towards the admin wing and caused large-scale damage. No injury or deaths were reported in the incident.
While the main building, which houses the offices of many large international corporations, remained unscathed, Monday’s fire raises questions regarding fire safety at GIFT City, a pet project of Prime Minister Narendra Modi from when he was the chief minister of Gujarat.
