MeraNews Network, New Delhi: Australia defeated India by four runs via D/L method in the rain-hit first Twenty20 International of the three-match series at the Gabba in Brisbane, Australia on Wednesday.
India scored 169 for 7 in the 17 overs against the target of 174 runs under the Duckworth and Lewis Method as the match got delayed due to rain. Earlier Australia scored 158 for 4 in 17 overs as India won the toss and elected to bowl.
While Shikhar Dhawan (74 off 42 balls) and Dinesh Karthik (30 off 13 balls) put in their efforts with the bat, India fell short by four runs as Marcus Stoinis defended the 13 runs needed for the win in the last over. Stoinis also hit a breezy 33 off 19 balls while Maxwell top scored with 46 off 24 balls.
Adam Zampa was awarded the man of the match for his 2/22, which included the scalp of India skipper Virat Kohli. After the T20 series, the two sides will play four tests and three ODIs.
