MeraNews Network, New Delhi: After a long wait and marathon meetings at Congress President Rahul Gandhi’s residence in New Delhi, the Congress party announced that veteran politician Ashok Gehlot will be the new Chief Minister of Rajasthan and Sachin Pilot will be his deputy.

Briefing media in New Delhi, All India Congress Committee general secretary K C Venugopal said party president Rahul Gandhi has taken this decision after consultations with various leaders. Gehlot thanked everyone for giving him the opportunity to serve the people of Rajasthan. “Rahul Gandhi raised the issues of unemployment and farm distress and as Chief Minister, I will work to deliver the promises made by the Congress president,” said Gehlot.

Meanwhile, senior Congress leader Kamal Nath will be the new Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh. Party observer AK Antony announced his name in Bhopal late Thursday night. Speaking to journalists after the announcement of his name, Kamal Nath said the chief ministerial post is a milestone for him. He also thanked Jyotiraditya Scindia, another contender for the top post, for supporting him in this endeavor. He assured people that he will fulfill the party promise and a new beginning will be made. Replying to a question on the loan waiver, he said, it is a challenging time and they will fulfill the promises made in the Vachan Patra.

The Congress has secured the support of a total of 121 MLAs, including SP and BSP legislators as also of four independents, to cross the majority mark of 116 seats in the 230-member Madhya Pradesh Assembly.It is worth to recall that newly elected Congress legislators of the three states had passed a resolution urging Rahul Gandhi to take a final call on the Chief Minister names.
