Vadodara: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation will soon run a second toy-train inside Kamatibaug Garden in the city. The new train will resemble the bullet train that is being planned between Ahmedabad and Mumbai. This new toy train will be inaugurated on August 15 this year.
The coaches of this toy-train will be air-conditioned. Currently, Kamatibaug (Also known as Sayaji Baug) runs a toy-train named ‘Sayaji Express’, which is a major attraction amongst visitors at the park. Previously, it used to run a steam-powered toy-train named ‘Udyanpuri’ which had got a diesel engine after some time but was later declared risk-prone. Now the train is kept at Maharaja Fatehsinh Museum after it was returned to the Baroda Royal family in 2003. The 1968 Shammi Kapoor-starrer Hindi film Brahmachari’s popular song ‘Chakke pe Chakka, Chakke pe Gaadi’ was shot at Kamatibaug and the ‘Udyanpuri’ toy-train had featured in the song too.
A similar toy train runs at Ahmedabad’s Kankaria Lake too. Toy trains have always been a major attraction among old and young alike. During vacations and holidays, visitors have to wait in long queues awaiting their turn, and thus the VMC decided to introduce a second toy-train. The new train will have the seating capacity of 120 people.
