Gandhinagar: Gujarat Congress today fielded two candidates and extended their support to an independent candidate, while Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) has fielded three candidates for the election of the four seats of Rajyasabha, scheduled on 23rd of March.

The seats in contention were earlier held by BJP’s Union Minister Arun Jaitley, Purshottam Rupala, Mansukh Mandviya and Shankarbhai Vegad. But in the last election Gujarat Congress won more seats which strengthened its hold in the house, allowing it to grab equal seats in the Rajya Sabha.

Congress candidates include former Union minister Dr. Amiben Yagnik,, Naranbhai Rathwa, former Minister of State in the Ministry of Railways and PK Valera, an independent candidate supported by the Congress MLAs. While BJP candidates include Purshottam Rupala who is the Union Minister of State for Panchayati Raj, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Kiritsinh Rana who is a Member of Legislative assembly from Limbdi constituency and Mansukh Mandviyais who is the Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Shipping, Chemical & Fertilizers have filed their nomination at the Vidhan Sabha Secretary office in Gandhinagar.
