MeraNews Network, Gandhinagar: The Additional Chief Secretary to the state Home Ministry, M.S. Dagur is set to retire on July 30 due to him reaching his age limit. Several officials are now in the race for Dagur’s post and of them, the one who seems to be the hot favourite is the non-controversial, 1986-batch Agriculture Department Additional Chief Secretary Sanjay Prasad.

Dagur had got the Additional Chief Secretary’s post in the Home Department given his close friendship with Chief Secretary of Gujarat J.N. Singh. But he set off a string of more than fifty investigations on a certain government official known to be close to BJP’s National President Amit Shah. As a result, the official was forced to go on a leave.

The official, who recently returned to work and have previously worked with six former Additional Chief Secretaries in the department, didn’t share warm vibes with Dagur.

The post of Additional Chief Secretary in the state home department is said to be of great importance. It’s always an out and out race amongst the officials to grab this post. The other officials in the race with Prasad are Punamchand Parmar (Health Department Additional Chief Secretary), Dr. P.D. Vaghela (Sales Tax Commissioner) and Dr. Rajiv Gupta (Labour and Employment Additional Chief Secretary). Sources claim that Sanjay Prasad is the frontrunner for the post.
