MeraNews Network, Gandhinagar: A group of revenue department employees, upset with Chief Minister Vijay Rupani’s comments about the department being amongst the most corrupt ones in the government, submitted a memorandum to the Gandhinagar district collector on Thursday. They demanded that the CM offer an apology and a refutation his statements, which has brought down the morale of the department staff.
In an event on Wednesday in Ahmedabad CM Rupani, while addressing the attendees, said that the revenue department and the home department in the state government are the most corrupt ones. The statement caused flutter across the state and the opposition Congress didn’t miss the opportunity to target the government for the CM’s comments. The revenue department employees visited Gandhinagar district collector SK Langa’s office on Thursday to submit a memorandum citing that the CM’s statement has upset the employees of the department.
The group, headed by Devesh Patel, Viram Rabari, and GA Patil stated that the revenue department staff not only does the department related work but also participates relentlessly in election duty and drought relief activities too. But when the state’s chief minister himself makes such statements, it demoralizes the staff. They demanded that the CM offer a public refutation of his statements and an apology to the department staff, failing which they will organize protests against him.
This is not the first instance where a political leader in power has called out government departments of being corrupt in public spaces. Earlier, deputy chief minister Nitin Patel too had made similar comments calling the revenue department to be one most corrupt departments in the government.
