Anil Pushpangadan, Gandhinagar: The Annual DGP Conference for this year is slated to be held in Kevadiya Colony, Gujarat. This event is organized in a manner that it coincides with the inauguration of the statue of unity on October 31 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Gujarat Government is working out a plan to take the visiting DGPs and officials on a tour of the Statue of Unity. Other than PM Modi, Home Minister Rajnath Singh and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval too would be visiting Gujarat this autumn for the conference.
Gujarat has played host to the DGP’s Conference in the past too when the event was held at the Kutch Tent City in 2016. With the Lok Sabha elections inching closer, the BJP is trying to woo back its miffed Patidar vote bank and unveiling the massive Sardar Patel statue in his birth anniversary cannot be a better opportunity for the party in power.
The DGPs conference is held every year in the autumn or winter in January. The home ministry has instructed the state government to make the necessary arrangements for the same. A tent city is being constructed at Kevadiya Colony where the DGPs will be put up. The DGPs will be invited to bring their families along with them too. In 2016, the families were treat to sightseeing at the white desert of Kutch and this year they might get to tour the Narmada Dam and Statue of Unity.
