Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Crime Branch has been handed over the reins of investigations into the brutal murder of Jamnagar-based lawyer Kirit Joshi. Joshi was killed in his office by unknown men. According to the orders of DGP Shivanand Jha, the investigation of the case has been now transferred to Ahmedabad Crime Branch from Jamnagar Police.
The cold-blooded killing of Joshi has riled up the lawyers across the state. They’ve been skipping work from metropolitan court to the high court and have been protesting against the shoddy investigation into the murder. The cops have been unable to catch the killers even after 10 days of the murder. According to the primary investigation of the Jamnagar Police, the reason behind Joshi murder could be his involvement in a land-deal case. The police have been unable to find out if this is a supari-killing (contract-killing) and who is behind it. The rising anger amongst lawyers across the state prompted the state police chief to take this decision of transferring the investigation to Ahmedabad Crime Branch from the local police.
It’s a rare scenario where the crime branch of a different district or a city is brought in to investigate cases where the local police fail. The previous instance where the Ahmedabad Crime Branch’s help was sought was the horrific rape and murder of an 11-year old child and her mother’s murder in Surat.
