Gandhinagar: The Gujarat Police’s Mobile Pocket Cop Application, which was conceived under the aegis of the state home ministry’s E-Gujarat Project, has got acceptance at national stage and has won the FICCI Smart Policing Award-2018. This application was launched to help the cops tech-savvy and more active in detecting crime.

Congratulating the police force for their win and successful implementation of technology into smart policing, state home minister Pradipsinh Jadeja said that Gujarat will lead the nation towards the development of Digital India. Gujarat’s mobile pocket cop app was selected out of the 200 applications that were vying for this honor. Statistics and Program Implementation department’s Union minister for state Vijay Goyal had awarded this honor in a conference held in New Delhi.

The pocket cop mobile application covers all the branches of every police station in the state, including CID Crime, Anti-Corruption Bureau, Anti-Terrorist Squad and Crime Branch. The pocket cop app has been extremely useful to the police for crime detection and investigation and passport verification. 4900 policemen have been provided with a smartphone who operate this app for detecting and solving crimes by accessing and feeding relevant information in them and ensuring foolproof investigation. It has been able to catch 9,300 criminals with the help of this app.

This app has also been useful in quick police verification for getting passports. The police have so far completed verification of 58,378 applications for a passport. Other than that, 24,674 missing vehicles were recovered and 5,075 missing persons were found out with the help of this app.
