MeraNews Network, Ahmedabad: A sessions court in the city on Tuesday rejected the bail plea of Nalin Kotadiya, the disgraced former MLA from Amreli who has been accused of being one of the conspirators behind the infamous Bitcoin scandal. Kotadiya, in his plea, claimed that his health was failing and over and above he was innocent of the charges pressed against his and hence be given bail, but the court rejected the plea stating that the proofs against him nail his charges and the investigation is at an important juncture.

The court said that the proofs provided by the public prosecutor point towards the direct involvement of Kotadiya in the scandal. The Call Data Records (CDR) also showed that Kotadiya was constantly in touch with the police officials who had kidnapped and extorted money from Surat-based realtor Shailesh Bhatt. Even the excuse of failing health couldn’t convince the court to grant Kotadiya the bail he was seeking as the court noted that the investigation in the case is at an important juncture and thus granting him bail was out of the question.

It is to be noted that in February, Shailesh Bhatt accused the Amreli Police of kidnapping and illegally detaining him and later extorting cryptocurrency worth Rs 12 crores from him. CID Crime registered a case in regards to this and is investigating the matter. So far 12 policemen have been arrested for kidnapping Bhatt, out of which many of the constables were given bail by the court.
