MeraNews Network, Ahmedabad: The seventh edition of the Amdavad National Bookfair will be held from November 24th to the 30th at the GMDC ground near Helmet Cross Roads in the city starting this Saturday. Organized by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, the event will be inaugurated by Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani in the evening. The theme this year would be Cleanliness and Ahmedabad’s heritage.
Close to 200 publishers, booksellers, and distributors will have their stalls set up at the GMDC Convention Hall selling regional and English language books written by renowned Indian and international authors at special prices. There will also be other activities being held on the sidelines of the bookfair like Kavi Sammelan and Mushayro (Poets Convention), Meet the Author, Youth Literary Talk sessions and Author’s Corner. There will also be special events and competitions for children.
The event, which is usually being held during the April-May in summer, was shifted to November in winter to coincide with the World Heritage Week celebrations by the AMC. The decision was taken keeping in mind the fact that major book fairs across the country take place during the winter and very few people attend the fair during the hot summers. The book fair was started off in 2012 on the foundation day of Gujarat as a part of the Vanche Gujarat mission by the Gujarat government.
