MeraNews Network, Gandhinagar: Mahotji Thakor, a former Gandhinagar Congress leader has been arrested for threatening North Indian migrants after the rape of a 14-month old kid in Sabarkantha an immigrant worker from Bihar incited rage amongst locals, who attacked several colonies of North Indian migrants across the state.

In a video that has been doing the rounds of social media locally, Thakor can be seen shouting at a migrant family outside their house in Uvarsad, Gandhinagar. Thakor threatened the family with dire consequences if they didn’t go back to their state. He is overheard telling the family to catch the first train back to their native state next day or else the Thakor community will throw them out of their house.

Gujarat Police has assured the migrant community of all necessary steps to be taken for their safety and actions against those perpetrating violence against them. The cops have started identifying and arresting those who attacked and threatened North Indian migrants after many complaints began to pour in. The arrested including Mahotji Thakor, a prominent community leader and former Congress member from Gandhinagar.

Hundreds of migrants, mostly working as labourers at construction sites and factories were seen jostling for space in buses, trains and other modes of transport to go back to their states, i.e. Uttar Pradesh and Bihar with the fear of getting attacked by enraged locals.
